In this Appreciation Month, join Home Credit in exploring the stories of two individuals who have significantly contributed to building a culture of learning and mutual support at Home Credit.
Ms. Giang Le – Sales Training Team Leader
❓Hello Ms. Giang, as a leader in training, what inspires you to share knowledge with others, whether it’s part of your job or a personal passion?
💬 Ms. Giang Le: The quote from William Butler Yeats, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire,” has always been a source of inspiration for me. Sharing knowledge is not merely a duty or responsibility; it is a contribution to the organization’s overall growth. Seeing others progress and succeed thanks to what I have shared brings a special feeling, knowing I’ve played a role in positive change. Each time I share, I aim to convey not just theory, but real, applicable value that others can use in their work and life. I believe knowledge only truly holds value when shared and applied in real life, spreading its impact. This drives me to constantly find ways to inspire and ignite the passion for learning in those around me.
❓How do you think this sharing culture impacts personal development within the organization?
💬 Ms. Giang Le: A culture of sharing is fundamental to creating a supportive and cohesive work environment. At Home Credit, when people share and learn together, they not only enhance their technical skills but also build soft skills like communication, problem-solving, and time management. This boosts each individual’s confidence, encouraging them to be more proactive at work. When people feel part of a supportive team, they contribute wholeheartedly, not just out of a sense of duty, but also out of connection within our shared “home” at the organization. This fosters a creative, effective workplace where everyone strives to grow and improve. I find that sharing knowledge helps everyone work more effectively and brings about innovative and practical solutions for the organization.
❓Do you have any specific methods or techniques to help your audience understand and apply what you share?
💬 Ms. Giang Le: When sharing knowledge, I focus on ensuring that the audience not only understands but can also apply what they’ve learned right away. One method I often use is Learning by Doing, allowing learners to experience real-life situations and derive lessons from them. For instance, I present work-simulated scenarios where listeners can practice and solve problems in a safe environment. I also use the EDAC method (Explain, Demonstrate, Apply, Consolidate) when working with new employees, which allows me to explain, illustrate, and let them practice reinforcing the knowledge. This approach helps knowledge go beyond theory to practical application, empowering them to be more confident and proactive at work.
❓How has sharing knowledge helped you grow or learn in your role?
💬 Ms. Giang Le: Sharing knowledge not only develops essential skills in my work but also broadens my perspective and problem-solving abilities. When sharing, I must view issues from multiple angles, which helps me recognize gaps in my knowledge and learn more to improve. Additionally, sharing enhances my communication skills as I work to convey messages in ways that are easy to understand and apply. It has also strengthened my confidence and leadership abilities as I guide and support colleagues to succeed. All of this has not only helped me mature in my role but also built strong relationships with my colleagues, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
❓Do you have any words of encouragement for colleagues who are trainers or passionate about sharing knowledge?
💬 Ms. Giang Le: I see knowledge sharing as not only giving but also receiving. When you share, you not only help others grow but also learn more yourself. Each sharing moment is an opportunity to reflect on your knowledge, consolidate, and expand what you know. Most importantly, sharing helps create a supportive and connected work environment where everyone learns from one another. Don’t hesitate to share, as small actions can lead to big impacts. By sharing, you contribute to the growth of those around you and create lasting value for the organization and yourself. The more knowledge is spread, the greater its value becomes
Mr. Long Vo – Head of Lending Product & VAS
❓Hello Mr. Long, we understand that although you aren’t a professional trainer, you are passionate about sharing knowledge with others. What inspires you to do so?
💬 Mr. Long Vo: My inspiration comes from an experience I had as a student. I once lived in a dorm with a smart friend who rarely attended class. In contrast, I was diligent, attending lectures and taking detailed notes. During exams, he often asked me to help review key concepts.
Interestingly, during our study sessions, he would ask tough questions that forced me to think thoroughly and explain concepts from different perspectives to help him understand. This process not only helped him grasp the material but also deepened my understanding and solidified my own knowledge. As a result, we both succeeded: he passed easily, and I scored high.
From that experience, I realized that sharing knowledge benefits not only the receiver but also provides the sharer an opportunity for self-improvement. This has shaped my habit of sharing and a belief that everyone has the potential for extraordinary growth if supported in the right way. I feel fulfilled when I can contribute to others' development while learning new things in the process.
❓How do you think this sharing culture impacts personal development within the organization?
💬 Mr. Long Vo: A knowledge-sharing culture plays a crucial role in building cohesion and a sense of belonging within an organization. When people feel safe to learn and share, they not only overcome challenges more easily but also unlock hidden potential. This is the foundation for continuous individual development.
I’ve noticed that young colleagues today have exceptional knowledge and skills, offering enormous potential for growth. This motivates me, as a more experienced generation, to share my experiences and guidance, helping them maximize their capabilities and reach further.
Beyond supporting others, sharing knowledge provides value to the person doing the sharing. It helps me improve communication skills, broaden my thinking, and strengthen relationships with colleagues. In the long run, this contributes to building a team that is continuously innovative, adaptable, and creative, forming a strong foundation for sustainable growth.
❓Do you use any specific methods or techniques when sharing knowledge to make it more understandable and applicable for the audience?
💬 Mr. Long Vo: In my view, the key to effective knowledge sharing is choosing the right approach and content for the target audience. One model I refer to is McKinsey’s EPIC framework (Empathy, Perspective, Innovation, Communication), where empathy is the first step to understanding the needs, context, and expectations of the audience.
Once the audience is identified, I apply specific techniques, such as:
- Real-life examples: This helps the audience relate knowledge to real-life situations and work scenarios, making its applicability clear.
- Visuals and charts: As the saying goes, “Seeing is believing.” Using visuals or charts makes complex content easier to understand and remember.
- Questioning technique: Asking questions not only encourages interaction but also stimulates the audience’s thinking, helping them actively engage in the learning process.
- Real-life storytelling: Relatable, inspiring stories not only make the content more engaging but also aid long-term memory.
- By focusing on the audience and using suitable methods, I believe that knowledge sharing provides greater value, both in understanding and in practical application.
❓How has sharing knowledge helped you develop or learn more in your role?
💬 Mr. Long Vo: Sharing knowledge has given me value not only in my work but also in personal development. Like the experience I mentioned from my student days, this process helps me organize my knowledge, recognize areas that need improvement, and learn more to enhance myself.
Additionally, sharing isn’t only about passing on information; it’s a learning journey. I’ve honed my listening skills and learned to appreciate diverse viewpoints from colleagues, which has broadened my thinking and problem-solving abilities.
More importantly, I’ve developed communication skills and confidence in presenting ideas to others. These improvements have boosted my job performance and enhanced my management role, especially in leading teams and creating a positive work environment.
❓If you could send one message to anyone considering sharing knowledge, what would it be?
💬 Mr. Long Vo: I would say, "Giving is also receiving." Sharing knowledge doesn’t diminish your value; on the contrary, it helps you grow. When you’re willing to share, you not only help others but also create learning opportunities for yourself. Don’t hesitate, as your small actions can have a big impact on the work environment and the development of the entire team.
Thank you, Ms. Giang and Mr. Long, for your inspiring insights. Wishing you both endless energy to continue inspiring and sharing knowledge, helping to build a sustainable learning and growth organization at Home Credit!
