SHE LOVES DATA VIETNAM MEETUP: Become a data-driven woman and take the lead

With participation from almost 120 attendees, the event was an insightful discussion as part of Home Credit’s Incredible Women program. This event highlighted our values of D/E/I (Diversity – Equity – Inclusion) and Digital Savviness. Attendees were able to gain a deeper understanding on the data industry and practical knowledge on navigating their leadership journey.

THE POWER OF DATA

NGUYEN NGUYEN – Business Analyst at Tripfuser shared her story on moving to tech domain from the starting point as an outsider; through which she instilled encouragement to the audience members who were still doubting their own tech capability. Even though her background was in tourism, she got interested in data and its positive influences on the distribution and hospitality industry.

DENISE TRUONG – CEO of Tyde Consulting shared the same vision, as she approached it while designing an app for her business. Her advice were: first, identify the vision, and then work with the right people to actualize it. Denise claimed that we don’t have to be 100% fluent in data, but we must know how it works, how to gather data and analyze data.

CHALLENGES

The speakers all agreed that Vietnamese women needed to be more assertive and confident with their goals, be able to conquer their fears of failures, and demand their righteous value. With 11 years of experience in consumer finance under her belt, THANH LUC – Head of Digital Partnership at HCVN believed in proactively facing challenges to learn and develop. She frequently volunteered to go out of the office to observe and interact with customers, in order to develop a better understanding of the market, so she could apply that knowledge to improve her planning and decision-making capabilities at the office by using data to predict customers’ behaviors and future needs.

HOW TO PREPARE YOURSELF FOR A DATA-DRIVEN WORLD

The speakers encouraged those who want to pursue a data career that it is not out of their reach. They could just start from simple steps, for example learning how to do research and structure data. They reminded the audience to ask the right questions about who they are and what they want, then formulate an action plan and be consistent with said plan. It’s also important to communicate effectively with others by taking their perspectives into consideration.
