Sustainability is a new concept and trend that companies are currently pursuing and integrating into their policies. Home Credit is one of the companies that has been building our direction based on sustainable development. Did you know that Home Credit was honored as one of the top 100 sustainable businesses in Vietnam thanks to our comprehensive ESG strategy? What are the "secrets" and directions of Home Credit's ESG strategies? In this Home Station, Home and you will have the opportunity to meet and chat with Ms. My Vu - Sustainability Assistant Manager at Home Credit, to learn more about the ongoing ESG activities at Home!
💬 Hi Ms. My, could you introduce yourself and share what brought you to Home Credit?
✅ Hello everyone, my name is My and I am currently working as a Sustainability Assistant Manager. I have been with Home Credit for more than 1 year. My journey to Home was quite serendipitous, as I was introduced to the opportunity in the Marketing Operations and Sustainability Department by a close friend who already worked at Home Credit. At first, I was quite surprised because I did not know much about the financial industry and especially a financial company that had this position.
💬 What motivates you to pursue your career in ESG?
✅ There are two factors that influenced my decision:
- Professional aspect: Since ESG is a rapidly growing field, there are many things to learn and explore. Working in this new domain allows me to actively contribute to shaping and building ESG activities step by step. I just think this is a great opportunity to learn, to try many things and to share experiences for everyone to progress together.
- Personal aspect: For me, I want to do a job that brings me joy and fulfillment every day. Engaging in meaningful work that creates value for both me and others is something that deeply resonates with me.
💬 As you mentioned, ESG is still a relatively new field. Could you provide further insights on ESG to enhance others' understanding?
✅ In terms of ESG, it's not solely the responsibility of individuals working in the ESG field, including myself or anyone else. In fact, everyone can contribute to the implementation of ESG. Some may assume that salespeople or those in customer-related roles are not directly connected to sustainable development. However, by performing their jobs diligently, taking on responsibilities, delivering value to customers, and helping improve their quality of life, they are effectively contributing to sustainable development.
💬 How does ESG at Home Credit compare to the companies you have previously worked for?
✅ At Home, there is a special thing that stands out to me, which is the genuine interest and engagement in ESG from all individuals and departments. From the beginning, Home Credit has embraced a sustainable mission. Moreover, our leadership team demonstrates a strong commitment to ESG and fosters internal communication activities to enhance employees' understanding of its significance. This proactive approach enables every employee to recognize the value and benefits they bring to our customers. When everyone acknowledges, embraces, and collaborates, Home Credit transforms into a more sustainable and cohesive organization.
💬 How does DEI mindset play a role in ESG practices at Home Credit Vietnam?
✅ Home Credit Group has 6 main pillars of ESG and one of them is Diverse Workforce. We place significant emphasis on fostering a DEI work environment for all employees. Specifically, I have noticed that Home Credit Vietnam is actively implementing and promoting DEI initiatives, not only internal engagement activities but also HR policies. Our workforce comprises employees from various countries and diverse ethnic backgrounds within Vietnam itself. I had the opportunity to talk with colleagues from Ha Noi, and I knew that we have employees representing 17 different ethnic groups in Vietnam, including those from remote northern mountainous regions. Despite language barriers, such as the limited proficiency in the Kinh language (the majority ethnic group in Vietnam), our diverse team enables us to better understand different cultures and languages. This understanding facilitates our ability to reach and provide opportunities to a wider range of people, including those who may face challenges accessing our products and services.
💬 In the past year and early this year, Home Credit has had a lot of activities about ESG. Can you share some examples of how Home Credit Vietnam's ESG initiatives have positively impacted diverse communities or groups?
✅ Home for Life – a program that provides loan packages for disadvantaged women. Home Credit has supported more than 100 disadvantaged women in many provinces, including Yen Bai, Vinh Phuc, and Ca Mau. Through this program, these women can access loans to improve their livelihoods, invest in livestock, and purchase seeds for farming.
Home Love - a charity program of Home to help children in remote highland areas by providing them with computers, books, and essential items for daily living, such as blankets, pillows, bowls, and utensils.
Home Green - our new program launched this year. We collect used clothes and sell them to help children. Although this is a new program, in the first month of implementation, nearly 100kg of clothes have been collected. Fortunately, all Home Credit employees actively support ESG activities.
