"Learning doesn’t stop when we are at work."

Giang Nguyen joined Home Credit as an IT Application Support Specialist before seizing the opportunity to advance her career to supervisor level at IT Service Desk. Initially, her team consisted of 6 members who were mostly at junior level.

“Hard work always pays off eventually. I am very glad that my team now has been expanded to 10 headcounts as well as their skills and expertise have been tremendously enhanced, resulting in 5 senior members capable of being independently in charge of each domain knowledge to support the company's critical products” Giang says.

On the way to achieve this, confronting inadequacy of management skills and industry knowledge is seemingly inevitable. Fortunately, she found learning and development activities at Home Credit completely hit the spot of enabling her to attain her development goals.

Back when she was a specialist, attending Business School, which was led by managers and industry professionals, was one of her right decisions. The program equipped Giang with the essential technical know-how of IT tools and techniques along with business insights and knowledge. “Thanks to this amazing program, I am better able to understand the company’s products and other stakeholders’ duties so that we could deliver exceptional services to users, thereby enhancing their trust in our team and IT department as a whole”, she reveals.

As a young supervisor managing a team of 6 male members, she struggled in the start to resolve conflicts and get her team on the same page. After 2 years of continuous improvements with the support of the People Management Induction Seminars (MIS) program, her leadership and people management skills were significantly enhanced. “Now, I am so confident and proud that I can manage a bigger team of 10 male members and effectively collaborate with relevant stakeholders”. Plus, she asserts that “Learning doesn’t stop when we are at work. I also would like to enroll in Odyssey Junior, an advanced program that I missed last year, to act on my future ambitions”.

Regarding the industry expertise, “Two recent courses I took from Udemy regarding Splunk and ITIL have given me a better technical understanding of technology as well as facilitated my job when helping create a suitable dashboard and adopt best practices for a seamless system operation” she says.

Her top three words to describe the learning and development journey at Home Credit are diversified, flexible, and inclusive. Ultimately, the ladies here are also connected and inspired to grow to their full potential with women’s empowerment activities along the way.
