If you want to know why there are similarities between these two seemingly unrelated fields and the journey from a veterinary student to a Data Analyst, join Home to meet Nhi Le – Home Racer 2023!
--
βHi Nhi, it's great to talk to you. Can you introduce yourself and share how you came to join Home Credit?
π¬ Hello everyone, I'm Nhi Le, a Data Analyst from the Anti-Fraud Department at Home Credit Vietnam. I'm delighted to have the opportunity to talk and share my story with all of you :D.
As for how I came to join Home Credit, I believe it was a signal from the universe, the right person at the right time :D. While I was conducting research for my graduation thesis, I was also exploring various Young Talent programs at different companies. The timing of the Home Racer 2023 program happened to coincide perfectly with when I was wrapping up my work in the laboratory, so I decided to give it a try. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to become a Home Racer in 2023 and have been with Home Credit ever since :D
βI am quite impressed that you graduated from the Nong Lam University with a major in Veterinary Medicine, yet you later transitioned and developed yourself in the field of Data. Can you share about this journey?
π¬ Indeed, many people are surprised and impressed by my academic background.
I have always loved animals and wanted to see them happy all the time, so I decided to study Veterinary Medicine. However, after nearly six years of pursuing this field and gaining practical experience, I felt that the long-term career trajectory of this profession in Vietnam no longer aligned with my initial goals, so I started exploring other areas.
Regarding my transition to Data, I found many similarities between my studies and working with data. A veterinarian needs to rely on clinical signs, test results, and information provided by pet owners to make diagnoses and determine appropriate treatment plans. Similarly, data analysis requires collecting and interpreting data to make informed decisions. Additionally, in my high school years, I was fond of the Pascal programming language and was fascinated when I saw my friend create a Pascal version of the Snake game. This sparked my interest in Data as a field to learn and explore.
βWhat are the most memorable experiences or achievements you had during the Home Racer 2023 program? What did you learn and how did you develop yourself through the program?
π¬ The six months as a Home Racer were filled with countless memories. The most notable was working on the Cross-Functional Project with three fellow Home Racers – Tran, Dat, and Vu. Throughout this project, they helped me a lot with knowledge and processes I was not familiar with. We have been there for each other throughout the project and even now β€οΈ.
Another thing I greatly appreciate is the opportunities our Line Manager created for the entire team. My colleagues and I were trusted to handle analysis tasks, different kinds of projects, and encouraged to voice our opinions and together solve the problems. Moreover, we participated in coding sessions to increase our knowledge, experience, and strengthen the bond between the team members.
Thanks to this, I went from only knowing basic SQL to being able to use various data analysis tools suitable for different requirements. Additionally, my soft skills and job-related knowledge have improved significantly.
βCan you share more about your journey with Home Credit after graduating from the Home Racer program?
π¬ After graduating from the program, I have had more time to work and learn about Fraud Prevention (the department I am currently working in). I am currently assigned projects related to those I participated in as a Home Racer, along with other analysis requests to effectively prevent and detect fraudulent activities.
Let me to "flex" a little bit more ;), thanks to the company's support and encouragement, I recently had the opportunity to participate in the Customer Talk program and interview Home Credit customers in the Northern region.
This experience helped me better understand customers' perceptions and experiences with Home Credit in general and the current fraud prevention processes. From there, my team and I came up with suggestions to improve on what have yet been satisfactory and to continue enhancing what was already making customers happy.
βThe Home Racer 2024 program is coming back. Do you have any advice for young talents who are interested in the Home Racer 2024 program?
π¬ I have some advice for young people who are interested in the program: the Home Racer program is a great choice if you want to enhance your professional skills, soft skills, and gain a comprehensive understanding of how a business operates and how divisions and departments collaborate.
For those who are switching fields (like me), I just want to say: Be confident and don't hesitate to apply, even when our skills and knowledge are not yet comparable to those who have familiarized themselves with data throughout their academic years. If you are genuinely interested and eager to learn about the new field you've chosen, and you can demonstrate this through personal projects on your CV or by participating in related competitions, I believe your efforts will be rewarded.
I look forward to seeing the Home Racers 2024 at Home Credit π.
Thank you, Nhi, for participating in today's interview and sharing your inspiring story π.
